We stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Nairobi. The Stanley is one of the oldest hotels in Nairobi with a storied past. These photos are of the street level cafe. Nairobi business people frequented here during the day and in the evening. It was quite a scene! The hotel had two other dining rooms (one poolside).

At one point I was taking photos of the pool area and surrounding dining area. After a few minutes a securitiy guard approached me and asked me if I was a guest at the hotel and to refrain from taking any more photos. I said, "Sure." Shortly thereafter my mom informed me that one of the gym attendants (who she was friendly with from her prior visit to the Stanley last year) told her that the group of people seated in the dining area of the pool included an Ethiopian warlord who was in exile. Apparently he became very nervous when he saw me taking photos in the area. Who knew? The group he was with was large, maybe 15 people, and they were all dressed in Western style clothing. Needless to say, the photos didn't come out anyway!
